Introduced for general issue in the late 1990s, the Tropical camouflage ('Tropentarn'), also known as Bundeswehr Wüstentarn, desert flecktarn or fleck desert, is a desert version of the classic Flecktarn camo and current desert pattern of the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) for its range of combat uniforms, field jackets and parkas, as well as for webbing, packs and rucksacks. It is a 3-colour disruptive camouflage, consisting of sparse red brown and dark olive spots on a sandy background (in contrast to the standard Flecktarn camo 5-colour scheme), designed for use in subtropical, dry and sandy arid and desert terrains.
